Before going into private practice, Spencer obtained his Juris Doctor from John Marshall Law School in Chicago. He spent time serving as an Assistant Corporation Counsel (City Attorney) in Springfield and a public defender before opening the lawoffice of Spencer L. Daniels in 1983.
